This project has been completed.


The community space project at Yellow Rock park is almost finished. The construction of the Park is now complete and is open for the community to use, already being enjoyed by locals. The Park now features,

· A bike-pathway loop that also allows for vehicle access to the Reserve during emergencies.

· Upgraded play equipment including basket swing

· Spaces to sit and relax

· Bounce wall and games area

· Landscaping and plantings

The Art component for the project continues. The Mosaic Wall and Mosaic Stepping Stones will soon be finished and ready to go on site. Local residents are developing these in workshops co-ordinated by the Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre. You are welcome to be involved, please use this Art Project link for more details.

It aimed to have an opening event in February 2016.

Grant funding allows for developing a Community Space, an Art Project and a Playground Upgrade in Yellow Rock Reserve. This is a collaborative project involving the Yellow Rock Community, Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre and Council.

The Draft Plan has been developed with guidance from a Steering Group, and also from surveys from the Yellow Rock community and local schools and their local knowledge.

  • Project Works & Completion date

    Works on the upgrade project in Yellow Rock Park have commenced, and are scheduled for completion on 11 December 2015. The contract for the construction part of the project has been awarded to Better View Landscapes, whose director, Shane Rogers, grew up in Winmalee. A concreter from Yellow Rock will be sub contracted to undertake the footpath work.

  • Art Project - Get Involved!

    A major part of this project is an ART component, in which Yellow Rock residents are encourage to be part of. This is being co-ordinated by the Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre (WNC). This includes,

    (i) A Mosaic Wall

    (ii) Mosaic Stepping Stones (personalised)

    Workshops are underway for both of these projects, and you are welcome to be involved. For more information, contact Morna Colbram of the Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre at 4754 4050.

    An additional art project will be supplying cut out shapes to go on the new concrete loop path in the park. This will take place in November. If you would like to be involved, contact the Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre on the details above.

    The Yellow Rock Community Space Project aims to develop an area within Yellow Rock Reserve (the Park) that can be better used and appreciated by the community. It also provides an opportunity to engage the Yellow Rock community in the ongoing recovery from the October 2013 bushfires.     Progress to date:

    An initial community meeting was held regarding the project at the Winmalee Guide Hall on Saturday 8 November 2014.

    A Steering Group of community representatives has been formed to assist Council in guidance of the process.

    A survey was forwarded to Yellow Rock residents, and local schools during December 2014 to provide input on what people were seeking in the community space.

    A Draft Plan for the park is currently being developed. This is expected to be on public exhibition for review in late March / early April.

  • Exhibition of Draft Plan and Public Information Session

    The Draft Plan for the upgrade of Yellow Rock Park is now on public exhibition for revirew until midnight Sunday 31 May 2015.

    The exhibition will include a Public Information Session at Yellow Rock Park on Sunday 24 May, from 10am - 1pm. This information session will be an opportunity for you to review the plans, ask questions, and provide comments and feedback on the proposed designs. You are welcome to attend.

    The Draft Plan has been developed with guidance from the Steering Group of
    local people drawing, on surveys from the Yellow Rock community and local
    schools and their local knowledge.

    A Steering Group has been formed comprising residents, Winmalee Neighbourhood Centre, RFS and BMCC representatives to help guide the development of a draft plan for Yellow Rock Community Space Project. This group will meet approximately five times over the duration of this project. You are welcome to have your ideas for the Park represented through one of the members of the Steering Group.   • Community Survey

    A community survey was conducted in December 2014 to assist Council to better understand the level of use of Yellow Rock Park and to seek ideas for imporving the Park. Surveys were also provided to local Primary and High Schools to obtain information.
