Active Transport Link: Hawkesbury Road
The Blue Mountains Active Transport Links Program aims to improve our streets for everyone, with safe and sustainable links between key destinations and towns across the Blue Mountains.
About this project
Council is working on plans for a new 4.5km pathway on Hawkesbury Road, between White Cross Road, Winmalee and Hawkesbury Lookout in Hawkesbury Heights to improve safety and access for walkers and riders. The project is identified as a priority under Council's Pedestrian Access and Mobility Plan (PAMP) and the Blue Mountains Bike Plan 2020.

Project status
Construction has begun on the new 4.5km Hawkesbury Road Link, connecting White Cross Road, Winmalee with Hawkesbury Heights Lookout.
The new shared pathway will provide a safer, more accessible route for walkers and bike riders, creating a continuous active transport connection between Springwood town centre, Winmalee and Hawkesbury Heights.
Works include construction of the new shared path, improved drainage, and new signage and wayfinding. Construction is expected to take around six months, weather permitting.
The project is part of Council's Active Transport Links program, which is delivering safer, better-connected walking and cycling infrastructure across the Blue Mountains. Once complete, the Hawkesbury Road Link will improve access to local destinations, encourage active travel and support healthier, more sustainable transport choices.
This project is proudly funded by the Australian Government through the Active Transport Fund and Investing in Our Communities Program with additional support from the NSW Government.
