Planting along Moore Street, May 28, 2024
Council and Glenbrook Public School are having a tree planting day Tuesday, May 28, 2024 during school hours (exact times to be posted on site closer to the date. It is requested no dogs are in the off-leash area during the planting). In the lead up, the area of planting will be temporarily fenced, herbicide sprayed, and holes for the trees pre-dug. Please keep dogs out of this fenced area.
BACKGROUND
Blue Mountains City Council obtained a $200,000 grant via the Australian Government’s Investing in Our Communities Program to upgrade the dog off-leash areas at Whitton Park in Glenbrook and Leura Oval in Leura, two of 14 off-leash areas in the Blue Mountains.
Council conducted community consultation throughout November and December 2023, to better understand community sentiments, wants, and needs, as well as gather thoughts and attitudes to specific options proposed for the off-leash area.
The key activities and outcomes to be considered in the project in Whitton Park include:
- Fencing to divide space for different dog types
- Installation of linked accessible pathways
- Duplication of water station with dog drinking bowl and bin in the separately fenced area
- Shade and habitat planting along Moore Street.
Activities and outcomes at Leura Oval to be considered included: - Installation of fencing
- Installation of a shelter/undercover area
- Additional seating
- Installation of linked accessible pathways
- Installation of water stations with dog drinking bowls
- Installation of additional signage.
The consultation report, and draft design on the Whitton Park project are now available for viewing and feedback (see Documents section, top right for consultation report)
(Click here to view the consultation report and draft design for the Leura Oval project). Survey closes March 8, 2024.
