Design description
The new toilet amenities at South Lawson Park will offer a left-hand and right-hand wheelchair accessible toilet, ambulant toilets, a baby change table, and a rainwater harvesting plant.
The building has a straightforward, linear design with easy-to-follow pathways and a clear entrance.
It’s designed with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles in mind, to help create a safe and welcoming space.
The building will allow plenty of natural light and fresh air, via the metal mesh at the gable ends, which are above the brick walls.
The roof is a key feature of the design, with large eaves that will provide shade and protection from the weather. The traditional gable roof shape is designed to suit the Blue Mountains’ local character.
The materials to be used for the building are chosen to blend with the natural park setting, resist the elements, and require little upkeep. These include brick walls, a metal roof frame and cladding, and timber hardwood for a low-height screen.
Sustainability features include rainwater harvesting, where rainwater from the roof is collected in a tank for reuse, and a water-sensitive landscape design that will help manage water on-site.
