We’re excited to invite the community to view the designs of the South Lawson Park toilet block.

The need for upgraded facilities at South Lawson Park has been made clear through previous community consultations and the rising popularity of the park. With more visitors enjoying the park’s improvements, the demand for improved accessible public toilets has grown.

This new toilet block will provide modern, inclusive amenities, ensuring the park remains a welcoming space for everyone.

The planned upgrade includes the construction of the new, inclusive toilet block, an upgraded car park and improved pathways.

The new amenities will offer a left-hand and right-hand wheelchair accessible toilet, ambulant toilets, a baby change table, and a rainwater harvesting plant. Enhanced car park surfaces, and accessible pathways will connect visitors to the park, and additional landscaping will restore the area surrounding the new facilities.

Take a look at the proposed designs below.

    Design description

The new toilet amenities at South Lawson Park will offer a left-hand and right-hand wheelchair accessible toilet, ambulant toilets, a baby change table, and a rainwater harvesting plant.

The building has a straightforward, linear design with easy-to-follow pathways and a clear entrance.

It’s designed with Crime Prevention Through Environmental Design (CPTED) principles in mind, to help create a safe and welcoming space.

The building will allow plenty of natural light and fresh air, via the metal mesh at the gable ends, which are above the brick walls.

The roof is a key feature of the design, with large eaves that will provide shade and protection from the weather. The traditional gable roof shape is designed to suit the Blue Mountains’ local character.

The materials to be used for the building are chosen to blend with the natural park setting, resist the elements, and require little upkeep. These include brick walls, a metal roof frame and cladding, and timber hardwood for a low-height screen.

Sustainability features include rainwater harvesting, where rainwater from the roof is collected in a tank for reuse, and a water-sensitive landscape design that will help manage water on-site.
