What are the key differences between the two draft playspace designs being presented to the community?

Both designs include a range of inclusive and engaging play features such as swings, climbing elements, and picnic spaces. Option One includes the visually striking ‘SkyTower’ structure designed to become a local landmark and slightly favours younger children. Option Two features a more physically challenging play circuit, including a flying fox, and slightly favours older children. Each offers a different style of play and responds to community feedback in different ways.

Can elements from both designs be combined in the final version?

Yes. Council is seeking feedback on which elements of each design the community likes best. There may be opportunities to combine preferred features from both options to create a final design that reflects a balance of community preferences.

Will the play space be bigger than it is now?

The playspace will have a similar number of square metres but it will be moved to include the slope to the tennis court and create a level grass area at the other end. There will be a similar number of play items, but they will be more exciting and diverse.

Will the playspace be accessible for people with disabilities?

Yes. Both design options include accessible pathways and inclusive play elements. Council is committed to providing a space that is welcoming and usable for people of all abilities, in line with broader objectives for inclusion and accessibility.

What happens after this round of consultation (presenting designs June 2025)?

Following this consultation, Council will analyse the feedback received and refine the final playspace design accordingly. A preferred design will be announced later this year, and detailed planning and procurement will begin ahead of construction.

What is the Mount Victoria Memorial Park Playspace and Courts Upgrade Project?

The Mount Victoria Memorial Park Playspace and Courts Upgrade Project is a community initiative aimed at enhancing the amenities of Mount Victoria Memorial Park. This project, funded by a $1 million grant from the Australian Government, seeks to promote inclusivity, health, and wellbeing for all residents.

    What does the project entail?

The project will involve upgrading the playspace and courts at Mount Victoria Memorial Park to better serve the community's needs. This includes adding accessible pathways, diverse play options, and nods to the area's rich history. The upgrade aims to create versatile spaces catering to various interests and activities for people of all ages.

How can I participate in the project?

Your input is crucial in shaping the future of Mount Victoria Memorial Park. You can participate in the project by sharing your thoughts and suggestions through our Have Your Say campaign.

    When will the construction begin?

Construction on the Courts is expected to commence late 2025.

How will my feedback be used?

Your feedback will play a pivotal role in the project's development. Feedbacl from the community has directly informed the courts and playspace designs and will continue to do so.

We are dedicated to ensuring that the final project reflects the desires and needs of local residents, and your input will guide our decisions every step of the way.

Why is community engagement important for this project?

Community engagement is vital because it ensures that the upgrade truly reflects the wants and needs of our community. By actively involving residents in the decision-making process, we can create a park that enriches the lives of current and future generations.

How does this project tie in with previous initiatives in Mount Victoria?

The Mount Victoria Memorial Park Playspace and Courts Upgrade Project builds upon the success of previous endeavours in Mount Victoria, such as the Mount Victoria Village Recovery Package. These initiatives aim to revitalize various aspects of the area, promote local tourism, and support social and economic recovery.
