Think someone you know is a local legend? Then make it official!

Nominate them for a Blue Mountains Local Citizen of the Year Award. The awards will recognise and reward those citizens who have a consistent record of excellence, who have made outstanding achievements in their field and have contributed in a significant way to the Blue Mountains community.

Nominating is quick and easy.

Nominations are sought for the following categories:

  • Citizen of the Year (up to 64 years)
  • Senior Citizen of the Year (65 years and over)
  • Community Achievement of the Year

Nominations are sought for Blue Mountains residents of excellence from all backgrounds and fields of endeavour including community service, humanitarian, business, science and technology, arts and entertainment, sport, education and environment.

    Ineligible Nominations

    • Nominations that do not meet the eligible and selection criteria or are not submitted through official channels will not be considered.
    • Any late nominations received will be assessed at the discretion of the Corporate Communications and Marketing Team for relevance and eligibility and referred to the selection panel as appropriate.

    Refers to the annual Blue Mountains Local Citizen of the Year award that recognises exceptional contributions made by an individual up to the age of 64 (inclusive) to the local community in the areas of community services, charitable work, education/school development, environment, arts and culture, employment, humanitarian, sporting endeavours (administration, coaching, managing, playing etc.) or initiatives that enhance the quality of life for residents.

    Eligibility Criteria

    • Nominee must be an Australian Citizen
    • Nominee must be a resident of the Blue Mountains LGA
    • Nominee must be aged up to 64 (inclusive) years of age
    • Nominee must not have received this award previously
    • Awards will not be granted posthumously
    • Unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated in subsequent years
    • Nominee must not fall within any of the ineligibility categories as stated below.

    Selection Criteria

    • The award must be for work performed principally within the Blue Mountains LGA
    • Consideration will be given to a nominee’s community activities and work undertaken in the years prior to the nomination year.
    • The nominee must be held in high regard in the community.
    • The nominee’s community work must be of a high calibre.
    • The statements from the referee/s for the nominee will be considered.

    Refers to the Blue Mountains Local Community Achievement of the Year award which recognises the exceptional contributions made by a group that has made an outstanding contribution to the community during the last year, within the Blue Mountains community during the past 12 months.


    Eligibility Criteria

    • Community group must consist of two (2) or more people
    • Commercial organisations are excluded
    • Nominee must not have received this awarded previously
    • Nominee must not fall within any of the ineligibility categories as stated below.
    • Unsuccessful nominees may be re-nominated in subsequent years
    • The event has to have been held within the last 12 months
    • Events can be held at any venue or location within the Blue Mountains LGA
    • Events can be nominated by commercial, not-for-profit, community events, school, social or sporting groups/organisations.


    Selection Criteria

    • The award must be for a community group of two or more people, based and operating in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area that has made an outstanding contribution to the community during the last year.
    • For example they raise funds for a community charity, event or project, conduct a successful project, event or activity or who bring recognition and credit to the community through a cultural, environmental, educational or sporting achievement/s.

    The following people cannot be considered for Blue Mountains City Council’s Local Citizen of the Year Awards:

    • Current employees of Blue Mountains City Council and their spouses or defacto partners
    • Current Councillors, Federal or State members of Parliament and their spouses or defacto partners
    • Individuals may not nominate themselves
    • Previous winners of Blue Mountains City Council’s Local Citizen of the Year Awards will not be eligible for nomination for the same category, but can be considered for recognition in a separate category in following years.

    The selection panel includes the current Mayor and Deputy Mayor of the City of the Blue Mountains.

    Selection Process

    • All members of the selection panel are required to vote for each award category.
    • All decisions and discussions relating to the assessment or recommendation of the persons to be awarded with Council’s Local Citizen of the Year awards must be kept confidential until the date of the presentation ceremony, 14 June 2024.
