Lapstone Traffic Study
Consultation has concluded
Blue Mountains City Council is seeking community feedback on a range of proposed road safety improvements in Lapstone.
Community concerns regarding traffic congestion, safety and parking behaviour along Explorers Road and Governors Drive in Lapstone have been raised. As a result, Council undertook a review of these two roads to assess the current traffic and parking conditions. The review identified signage, line marking, and infrastructure measures to improve traffic flow and promote road safety.
Explorers Road and Governors Drive are local collector roads that provide connectivity between the Great Western Highway, Lapstone and Glenbrook. They also provide access to local attractors including sporting facilities, Lapstone Station, Lapstone Public School, and many residences. Both roads feature undulating road geometry with curves, narrow areas, crests and dips, and accommodate moderate to high traffic volumes and parking demand.
This review included, but was not limited to, the following:
- A review of previous traffic studies and background of the area
- A review of previous speed, volume data and crash trends
- Site inspections to observe driver behaviour, and locations of current signage, line marking, and traffic infrastructure
Following this review, a detailed report of the findings was completed, together with a proposed plan for signage and line-marking. This report can be viewed in the Document Library on the right. All measures proposed in the report act to improve traffic flow and road safety within the study area.
The proposed treatments, along with community feedback, will be presented to the Local Traffic Committee for consideration in late April.
This is an important issue for the community, and we want your feedback on the proposed measures. To provide your feedback, use the form below or click here.
