FAQs
What is the Buttenshaw Park Small Pump Track Project?
The Buttenshaw Park Small Pump Track is a new addition to the Buttenshaw Youth Play Space in Springwood, designed to provide a dedicated area for young cycling enthusiasts. It is part of the 2024 Neighbourhood Parks Program, which aims to enhance community facilities across the Blue Mountains. This track is the final stage of the extensive Buttenshaw Youth Play Space project.
What is the Neighbourhood Parks Program?
The Neighbourhood Parks Program is a $6.1 million initiative funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) Program. It will upgrade 16 neighbourhood parks across the Blue Mountains over four years (four parks per year). The program focuses on improving community facilities, amenities, and reducing ongoing maintenance requirements and costs.
Why is the small pump track being built now?
The small pump track was initially planned as part of the Western Parkland City Liveability Program but was delayed due to increased material and labour costs. Recognising the strong community interest, Council is now completing it as part of the Neighbourhood Parks Program.
When will construction of the small pump track begin?
Construction is expected to commence January/February 2025, with final design plans public display now, until 20 December 2024. The project follows extensive community consultation and feedback.
How has the community been involved in the planning of the pump track?
The development of the pump track followed extensive community consultation, including feedback from local bike groups. There have been multiple rounds of consultation through various channels, including letterbox drops, signage, online updates, social media, community forums, and workshops.
What are the benefits of the small pump track?
The small pump track will provide a dedicated space for cyclists of all skill levels, enhance recreational opportunities in the area, and complete the Buttenshaw Youth Play Space project. It will also help to reduce maintenance costs by incorporating durable and low-maintenance features.
How will the small pump track impact local park facilities?
The small pump track will be integrated into the existing Buttenshaw Youth Play Space, complementing other amenities such as the flying fox, climbing structures, and giant swing. It will add to the park’s recreational offerings and attract more visitors to the area.
Will there be any costs associated with using the pump track?
The use of the small pump track will be free of charge for the public. There are no fees or charges for accessing the track, ensuring it remains an accessible and enjoyable facility for everyone.
