FAQs
What is a Local Environmental Plan (LEP)?
A Local Environmental Plan (LEP) is a statutory document that dictates how land can be used and developed. It outlines the objectives, zones and standards for land use ensuring that development is environmentally sustainable and compatible with the local environment.
What is a Planning Proposal?
A Planning Proposal is a formal document requesting an amendment to a Local Environmental Plan (LEP). This document can be prepared by a council, landowner or developer seeking to change the planning controls that relate to a particular site or area. It explains intended outcomes, identifies and assesses the potential impacts that the proposed changes to the LEP may have, and provides justifications for the amendment.
What is the purpose of this Planning Proposal?
This Planning Proposal seeks to add ‘Leuralla Amphitheatre and Dam Sites’ as a local heritage item within Schedule 5 of the Blue Mountains LEP 2015. The lack of current heritage protection over the Leuralla Amphitheatre and Dam Sites presents substantial risk for the sites and their heritage significance.
What are the next steps?
Following public exhibition, Council staff will consider any submissions received and prepare a report for consideration by the Council. The report will include recommendations that Council either proceeds with the Planning Proposal as exhibited, or with amendments that may arise from the submissions received. Once endorsed by the Council, the Planning Proposal will be submitted to the Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure for finalisation.
