Consultation has concluded
Council has received reports from the community regarding the increasingly high levels of tourist traffic at Lincolns Rock. A noticeable increase in visitation has resulted in a reduction in air quality from dust off the unsealed southern section of Little Switzerland Drive, anti-social behaviour including vandalism, litter, wildfire, illegal camping, as well as impact on highly sensitive vegetation. The increased vehicle traffic, in particular heavy vehicles (buses) has accelerated wear of the unsealed road, which results in shorter maintenance cycles and increased cost to Council.
Council has developed a proposal to establish a formal track head on Little Switzerland Drive opposite Hordern Road; Wentworth Falls (see design drawings).
This proposal requires restriction of traffic on Little Switzerland Drive 10m south of Hordern Road, sealing the portion of Little Switzerland Drive that remains open to vehicular traffic, the control of visitor parking through the marking of car and bus parking, as well as regulatory parking signage. Less immediate access to Lincolns Rock by vehicles and more visible positioning of the track head and parking is expected to reduce visitor impacts on residential amenity.
Council plans to exercise its authority under Division 1 Part 8 Section 115 of the NSW Roads Act 1993 to restrict traffic from the southern portion of Little Switzerland Drive, Wentworth Falls in order to protect the earth road from serious damage by vehicles, including heavy buses and to protect nearby residences and environmentally sensitive vegetation from dust pollution.
