Hello and thanks to all who put in ideas for the Summerhayes Park Playspace upgrade to date, this is our draft design.

Just to put you in to context - this is the car park through here, amenities block here, the soccer fields there, netball court there and the bush runs along this side.

The idea is to fence the whole playground, with a gate on this side towards the high use area.

A new path will come through from the car park around and through the play space, heading with a turning loop here with shaded seating.

The play equipment stays, the climber stays, the slide stays and these swings are relocated to make room for a quiet space on entry for the children to pause and see what’s happening. The slide will be replaced with a nest swing with rubberised soft fall over here.

For a bigger range of play experiences, we’ve added a level area of an organic soft fall here with some gymnastic-parkour type elements, and balance logs, there’s a rock embankment to climb up down through there and funds permitting, a deck here overlooking the bushland.

We will also rework the tank top to make a little stage for young performers.

These black dots represent sensory components - which we hope to develop with local high schools and local artists and add extra interest.

There will also be new seating through here and under this tree, in the shade of the trees for the carers.

Any feedback would be really welcome, especially if it helps us to make the play space more inclusive.

We’re seeking comments by the 25 November.
