I don't see any pont in community involvement in the management of the city's street trees when Integral Energy run around butchering them !

I almost cry when I see the disgraceful and ugly damage done to street and private property trees by Integral Energy. That company seems to be just as unanswerable for its actions than the RTA.

I totally agree. Integral Energy are vandals and need to be controlled. if a member of the public cut trees as they do the council would come down on them like a ton of bricks. Upon discussing this exact issue with the contractors concerned I was told that Integral Energy see the whole of the mountains from Lapstone Hill to Blackheath as one bushfire zone. This is so wrong! I was told that I was not allowed to prune the tree on my nature strip myself as it was council property.I do however prune it to keep a valley through the tree a safe distance from wires. We should all be encouraged to do so then the pruning will be more sympathetic.

Yes, I think it is important for the Community to have a say in what Street trees are planted. I would begin with replacing future plantings of Plane trees as they have a reputation at best of causing mild allergies as the whole Tree from leaves to pollen has some form of irritating properties,And at worst causing asthma in some people. I would replace them with the Tulip tree, Liriodendron tulipfera.

I think its great that the community has a chance of getting together and making their streets full of beautify with the use of nature. And we are the designers. If the council wanted to allocate funding and resources to my street to make it feel and look better i would be all for it, even if that meant helping out. Wind breaks, fruit trees, colour ect. Fantastic.
