About this project
Council is developing a new wayfinding strategy for Katoomba to make it easier for people to find their way around.
Wayfinding is about more than just signs, it’s about creating a connected experience for people moving through the town. This includes clear and consistent signage, maps and information points that help people walk, bike-ride or use public transport with confidence.
The strategy will provide clear and consistent street treatments, including signage, maps, lighting, public art and heritage interpretation, and aims to:
Improve how people navigate between key places, and support visitors to explore the area by highlighting important destinations, cultural sites and natural landmarks
strengthen Katoomba’s identity as one of Australia's iconic visitor destinations and the strategic centre of the city and gateway to the Blue Mountains National Park.
Why this project matters?
Clear, accessible wayfinding helps everyone. It makes the town safer and easier to navigate, encourages walking and bike-riding, supports local businesses and creates a stronger sense of place. Good wayfinding will also benefit people with limited mobility, visitors unfamiliar with the area, and the many people arriving by train or bus each year.
How you can be involved?
You can help shape the wayfinding strategy by emailing your feedback directly to Bindy Begg at bbegg@bmcc.nsw.gov.au, or by using the feedback form, before5pm Friday 19 September.
