Welcome to the Safer Cities: Her Way Katoomba Main Streets Safety Project
Everyone deserves to feel confident and comfortable moving through public spaces, whether they're walking to the train, heading to work, meeting friends or enjoying everything Katoomba has to offer.
Blue Mountains City Council has received funding through Transport for NSW's Safer Cities: Her Way program to work with the community to better understand how people experience Katoomba's town centre and transport precinct, and what changes could help people feel safer, more welcome and better connected.
Over the coming months, we'll be inviting the community to share their experiences through surveys, 'walkshops', pop-ups and co-design activities.
Our goal is to understand people's lived experience of safety in Katoomba town centre and co-design practical improvements that will increase perceptions of safety, particularly for women, girls and gender-diverse people.
Your feedback will help shape improvements such as lighting, accessibility, wayfinding, public spaces, public art and other streetscape enhancements.
Whether you live locally, work in Katoomba or visit regularly, we'd love to hear from you.

Take Survey
This survey will help inform safety improvements along several thoroughfares linking north and south Katoomba to Katoomba train station. The project includes the following areas and thoroughfares:
In South Katoomba:
- Studleigh Place (and its public toilet)
- Carrington Place (including the adjoining bus stop on Katoomba St)
- Approach to Katoomba Train Station from Gang Gang and Lurline St
In North Katoomba:
- Goldsmith Place and area around Gearin Hotel (incl. the commuter car park)
- The civic area north of the highway, around the Council building (including: Peace Park, the upper part of Station Street and the footpath leading from highway intersection down to Freelander Ave.)
We are looking for community input on each of these sites. Please select a location you often visit or pass through and would like to give feedback about. Feel free to complete the survey multiple times if you have more than one site you'd like to give feedback on.
