Feedback on the concept designs for Katoomba Falls Reserve has now closed.

Thank you to everyone who took the time to review the designs and provide feedback.

Following consideration of the feedback, the Katoomba Falls Reserve upgrade work is expected to commence in February 2026, starting with improvements to the Night Lit Walk. The full upgrade program is scheduled to be completed by mid-2027 (weather permitting).

The range of upgrades to be delivered includes:

  • An upgraded section of the Katoomba Falls Night Lit Walk, providing high quality signage, track surfaces, handrails and balustrades that meet current standards. In addition, supporting infrastructure such as seating and bubblers, will provide an improved experience for users.
  • Pedestrian crossing, intersection and parking adjustments to improve connectivity across Cliff Drive and provide better access to public amenities, the Night Lit Walk, Katoomba Falls Kiosk and Katoomba Falls Tourist Park.
  • Traffic calming measures to improve pedestrian safety.
  • A new amenities building closer to the Night Lit Walk with greater capacity and accessibility.
  • Two new picnic shelters available to general users, which will also provide cover for small groups of school students, who often undertake environmental education at the reserve.
  • A new changeroom building to replace and upgrade the existing facilities.
  • Improved drainage and lighting for the upper oval to enhance the usability of the oval following periods of wet weather and of an evening.

We acknowledge that part of this area of land is located on The Gully Aboriginal Place and Council is engaging in consultation with Traditional Owners.

The $4.8 million upgrade of Katoomba Falls Reserve is funded by the NSW Government’s Western Sydney Infrastructure Grant (WSIG) Program in association with Blue Mountains City Council.

Katoomba Falls Reserve works to commence

Works to commence on the upgrade of a section of the Night-lit Walk and park adjacent to the Katoomba Falls Kiosk.

The first stage of works to be delivered under the Katoomba Falls Reserve Upgrade will start on Monday 2nd February 2026, with construction commencing on the upgrade of a section of the Night Lit Walk and the park adjacent to the Katoomba Falls Kiosk.

A temporary partial closure of the walking tracks, the Night-lit Walk and park will be in place for the duration of these works, with completion currently estimated as June 2026. See link to Council’s Walking Track Closure Webpage (https://www.bmcc.nsw.gov.au/walking/walking-track-closures).

Council is continuing to progress other elements of the Katoomba Falls Reserve Upgrade during 2026, with the full program scheduled for completion by end 2027 (weather permitting).

    Concept designs for Katoomba Falls Reserve upgrade to improve safety, amenity and accessibility for residents and visitors.

    Concept designs and information detailing the upcoming improvements to Katoomba Falls Reserve are now available for the community to review.

    The designs, which incorporate community feedback received in late 2023, help illustrate how Council will deliver grant funded upgrades at the reserve, including:

    The concept designs can be reviewed and feedback provided until Friday 25 July 2025.

    Council explored a series of upgrade ideas for the reserve with the community in late 2023, as part of a large-scale, precinct planning process. The new concept designs are the evolution of those discussions and bring together community feedback with expert advice from internal and external stakeholders.

    As part of the Southern Escarpment Masterplan, Katoomba Falls Reserve has been identified as a priority area for the preparation of a precinct plan to inform the upgrade of Reserve and visitor infrastructure.

    November 2023

    The purpose of the Katoomba Falls Reserve Precinct Plan is to coordinate planning for nature and culture-based recreation and to prioritise and guide the delivery of recreational infrastructure upgrades. This will enable Council to improve residential amenity, meet current safety and accessibility standards, meet current and future visitor demand, improve the experience of both residents and visitors, and support local economic development.
