We would like to invite your comments on the draft Environmentally Sustainable Design Policy For Council Buildings before it progresses towards adoption.

About this policy:

For Blue Mountains City Council (Council) to apply the principles of Environmentally Sustainable Design (ESD) to the design, construction and refurbishment of council owned facilities.

As buildings consume large amounts of energy, water and other resources, the aim is to improve sustainability throughout the full life cycle of Councils buildings, from concept design, through to decommissioning. This will ensure our buildings are designed to minimise carbon emissions, maximise resource efficiency and reduce ongoing operational costs.

The ESD policy should be read together with the following additional documents:

  • ESD standards document; and
  • ESD matrix spreadsheet.

Consultation – how to provide a comment:

The draft policy and related documents are available on the right of this page. The submission form is below or alternatively you can email your questions or comments directly to kleach@bmcc.nsw.gov.au or rmorrison@bmcc.nsw.gov.au.

The ESD standards are organised across the following sections:

  1. Planning and design
  2. Site and Waste management
  3. Building materials
  4. Energy efficiency
    1. General
    2. Lighting
    3. HVAC
  5. Water efficiency
    1. Water fixtures
    2. Hot water
    3. Stormwater management
  6. Ecology
  7. Transport (access to public transport / future proofing for EV charging / bike storage etc.)

We are asking that you provide comments/feedback on sections that will affect you, or you have technical knowledge in.

Deadline for comments: Monday 2 November, 2020

Thank you in advance for your participation in this feedback process.
