Earth Friendly Advocate

The project has been discontinued since its inception in 2019. It was intended to be developed through direct contact with local businesses, which has not been possible due to the COVID safety measures that have been in place.

This project Being an Earth Friendly Advocate is more than good intentions; but the active effort to try and promote environmental conscientiousness through a variety of practices that seek to reduce business waste.

So that your business can be recognised by customers as being environmentally responsible, Blue Mountains Youth Council has devised a sticker that you can proudly showcase at your business premises, attracting customers and encouraging others to take proactive measures.

We understand that the world of positive change is constantly evolving but to get you started here are some ideas of how you can reduce your environmental impact:

• Sound waste management practices such as:
  • Waste minimisation/avoidance
  • Composting
  • Recycling
• The use of locally sourced produce
• Actively encourage and reward customers who bring their own re-useable products from bags, to keep cups and containers.
• Take away packaging should be made from recycled and recyclable materials
• Implement power and/or water saving initiatives
• Use of greywater safe products
• Donate surplus food

The Earth Friendly Advocate recognition program operates on an honesty system. Businesses who apply and showcase the recognition sticker are responsible to continue to make environmental efforts and highlight these efforts to their customers.
