What does Public Exhibition mean?

Public Exhibition is the official period during which draft documents are made available for consultation and feedback. The community and key stakeholders are encouraged to provide feedback to Council, usually in the form of a written submission.

    Why is this document important?

Council is developing a citywide approach to managing bus and coach visits to the Blue Mountains. The Draft Visitor Bus Management Plan has been created with input from key industry stakeholders and community and identifies options for managing the impacts of visitor buses across our city.

By taking a proactive approach to managing visitation, we can support a sustainable industry that preserves our natural and cultural assets and creates positive social impact for our city.

By looking at the document and telling us what you think, and whether you think we have missed anything - you’ll help shape the future of our city.

What issues is Council hoping to address with the plan?

Visitation plays an important role in our city, generating more than $484 million in gross revenue annually and supporting one in ten jobs in the Blue Mountains – it is the second largest employing industry in the region. However, uncontrolled visitation has the potential to intensify many issues, including:

    • Increased pollution and the resulting negative impacts on culture and the environment.
    • Congestion and the impacts on infrastructure, local amenity and safety.
    • Impacts to local businesses, with customer accessibility being a major barrier restricting business growth in our town centres.

This long-term plan will help to define how buses interact with the city and provide Council with a traffic management tool to ensure the positive benefits of visitors are maximised for the city, while limiting the negative impacts.
