Batman Park is used by lots of children. If some of the Reserve is fenced off for a dog off-leash area, do you think this will change the way children use this space?

I dont like the idea of a quiet part of Springwood becoming a busy area with increase in traffic through the suburban streets to get the barking and pooing dog to the childrens park. Why not Glenbrook? There is already a carpark and GWH, so is already noisey with traffic flow. Springwood people can go to the Winmalee park easily enough.

If the dogs are socialised it will improve the children's time in this space.
As the Blue Mountains has come only lately to an enlightened approach to this issue, our new off leash areas are not suitable to many Blue Mountains dogs that have (often) been turned unfriendly and even neurotic by having been locked away by their owners for years without socialisation and excersize. An owner who unleashes a marginal dog with children, people and other dogs around deserves to suffer the full force of the law..

I have owned dogs for over 30 years in the mountains and they all survived without dog off-leash areas. They were friendly and socialised with dogs when I walked them around the street on a leash. If you don't have the space for a dog in your yard - don't have a dog.

Rose has done the right thing and socialised her dogs responsibly. I don't believe it was dumb luck, but intelligent and deliberate pet ownership.
        • The Deacon almost 10 years ago
Rose is a responsible dog owner!
DUMB LUCK is a personal attack and not warranted but you are typical of a dog owner (NOT DOG LOVER) you just result to snide comment to support you this makes you a BULLY DOG OWNER please feel free to move back to NEWTOWN with your dogs anytime.

      Enlightened approach how very newtown
IF your dog is that bored from being locked in a yard then that dog owner is an animal terrorist there dog should be taken and they should be jailed.
RESONSIBLE Dog owners walk their dogs every day or as offen as humanly possible, they spend time with their dog even play with it in their own yard.
ROSE & OTHERS have suffered the effects of dog of leash area
in LEURA and it has DAMAGED RESIDENCE opinions of dogs and their owners.
CHILDREN & WHOLE FAMILIES are whats important not a dog or its neurotic owners whims.

The only way if to know this, is to ask the children that use the space currently, and see what they think of having some of the reserve fenced off and how that might affect them

Children spoke at a BMCC meeting explaining that if Leura Oval became a dog off-leash area they would not be able to play on it after school. Unfortunately dog-owners barked louder than the children and now the Oval is for dogs only - children can't play on it after school as the dog off-leash area starts at 4pm.

Dogs and children have been playing together and seperatly in off leash areas all over nsw for decades.
Involving children in an adult discussion of municipal facilities is obviously an emotional cheap shot and unworthy of mature consideration. I do however agree that a ban on kids when dogs are off leash is unnecessary.
      • The Deacon almost 10 years ago
BMCC need to be held accountable the situation at LEURA is unacceptable.
I will be at council meeting for Glenbrook and I will be barking as load as dog of leash supporters.

CHILDREN dont need areas taken from them, Council when the kids get bored they destroy and vandalise property also more likly to turn to crime and drugs.
WELL a few dog owners will be happy and have happy dogs BMCC you disgust me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
      • The Deacon almost 10 years ago
BMCC dont listen to children WHY children have a mind they are who you effect most of all, god help you when they are old enough to vote, they will remember and vote with hate.

Involving children in a meeting was fair enough and I trust and even hope that BULLYING loud barking DOG OWNERS did not subject these children to hekelling or ridicule such as which I note flows easily from the hand of favourite uncle from NEWTOWN who him self likes to release a cheap shot or two.

Definitely will impact. My youngest son was traumatised by a 'friendly' dog in an off leash area. 'He's never bothered anyone before...' Ultimately I had to beat the dog off with a stick.

Yes, well your life will change if an off-leash area is placed near your street. Not all dog owners obey the rules and why should dogs have preference over children.
    • favouriteuncle almost 10 years ago
"friendly" dogs don't attack anyone. Marginal dogs should not be permitted in off leash areas. Off leash facilities means more socialised and "friendly'dogs

As you stated youself previously if a small dog feel threatened by a small animal (a small chil) it may respond with a bite!
What is a marginal dog? you also stated unsocialised dog should only be released in off leash area if owner can be held accountable.
Buy your previous statments its ok to let visious dogs of leads and any dog is UNPRODICTABLE.
You may feel your dogs are "friendly" but by your own admission in previous statments ALL DOGS ARE CAPABLE OF ATTACK AT ANY TIME!!

Favourite uncle lives in a dream world where only friendly dog owners use off leash areas. Unfortunately there are and always will be irresponsible dog owners. RSPCA is still running? The dog puonds are still there aren't they? Wild dogs running through the bush in the Blue Mountains....and there is still dog poo on the pathways.... that"s my reality....

Norman's son experienced what parents fear the most and I hope the owner of the dog was punished for it by the police. Violence by dogs to children is the same as violence by people to children. Dogs aren't children and should not be given the same area to play in. Just today I saw a dog owner walking a large dog that went for a bike rider and pooed on the side of the road. Did the owner pick up the poo? No

Normans son was obviously subjected to physical and mental trama what will be the long term effects for this little boy

Norms son as to all children need to be and feel safe any were in AUSTRALIA.
Even if a child is not attacked why is it acceptable to watch DOG FIGHTS in a fenced of area maybe council think it a good life lesson for kids of today.
Dog Lovers I feel for BUT Dog OWNERS are a differnt breed of selfish people may be if they to had children they may think differently.
NO DOGS IN GLENBROOK PARK AREAS A OR B walk in your own back yard leave your droppings their.

Dogs and children go together. Most children that have been bought up well socialised love to play with dogs. Batman Park would be a great OFA!! Yes is my vote!!

Children love to play with the dogs they know and trust, no argument there. The point I am making is that the dogs and children will be strangers at times unless they already know each other from the neighbourhood anyway. The point is that there will be irresponsible dog owners and potential for dog fights and children getting bitten.I know I don't want my child being the one bitten. Go and experiment some where else, BMCC.
