Do you have a passion for cycling in the Blue Mountains? Do you feel that you can make a contribution to cycling by representing your group or community as part of a Cycling Advisory Committee?
Cycling is on the increase with many people choosing to cycle to their destinations to save on the costs of transport and to decrease the use of carbon based transport, cycling also contributes to personal health and provides an enjoyable, convenient and affordable means of exercise and recreation.
While Council has provided many new services and cycleways for cyclists, the establishment of a Cycling Advisory Committee (CAC) will ensure the community has a chance to provide feedback on the future of cycling in the Blue Mountains. This engagement, discussion and information sharing includes important issues for the City such as;
Promotion of cycling for active transport, recreation and fitness
Increase participation of women and young cyclists
Increase and improve active transport related infrastructure
Build opportunities around cycling for sustainable economic development and supporting local business.
Nominations have now closed. Submissions are being reviewed and nominees will be advised of the outcome.

At the Ordinary Meeting of the Council Meeting 28 July 2020, it was resolved;
“That the Council receives a report on the establishment of a Cycling Advisory Committee to facilitate the ongoing dialogue and communications between the Council, interested community groups and individuals on cycling matters across the City”. [Minute No. 205]
In response to the above Council resolution there has been overwhelming community interest and support for the Cycling Advisory Committee (CAC). There is a clear community urgency for the establishment of the CAC to allow a higher level of engagement on the future of cycling in the Blue Mountains. As such, at the Ordinary Meeting of the Council Meeting 25 August 2020, a Mayoral Minute was resolved;
That the Council seeks expressions of interest for membership of a Cycling Advisory Committee;
That the Council nominates a Councillor as Chair of the Cycling Advisory Committee; and
That a further report be presented at the 29 September 2020 Council meeting on nominations for the Cycling Advisory Committee and supporting Draft Terms of Reference.

The Committee will be chaired by a Councillor and it will not have decision making authority. Issues and information raised in the Cycling Advisory Committee will be open to the public and the information on the outcomes of the Committee may be reported to the Council and publicly available on the Council website.
Being a formal committee of Council, it requires Terms of Reference (ToR) to be developed and adopted by the Committee. ToR provides the corporate governance on the function of the Cycling Advisory Committee.
