A retrospective reflection on the experience of life in the Blue Mountains during the last year with bushfires, floods and COVID-19.

Blue Mountains residents, we’d love to hear your stories from a year like no other. Submit your creative work in response to 2020 for a chance to be selected for a virtual exhibition and/or place-based exhibition to be displayed in 2021 once COVID restrictions are eased. There are also prizes to be won!

Your entry can be:

  • An original story, reflection, poem or letter, up to 600 words in length.
  • An original photograph. This photograph can be of anything, including a portrait, place or object. You may also choose to photograph an original artwork that you have created.
  • A combination of both written words and an image.

There are three categories for prizes – Open, High School, Primary School.

The major prizes for the Open category are:

  • 1st prize: $1,000
  • 2nd prize: $750
  • 3rd prize: $500

Prizes also include:

  • High School category: Six $100 vouchers
  • Primary School category: Ten $30 vouchers

Winners of the High School and Primary School categories can choose between book or art supply vouchers to be spent at local stores.

There is a vast amount of research and evidence about the positive effects of sharing stories. 2020 is a time like no other and we are all experiencing the effects of this pandemic in unique ways. Many of us are struggling with the effects of job loss, isolation, changes in our routine, grief that our lives will never be the same and fear for the safety of ourselves and our loved ones. At the same time, many of us are seeing this as an opportunity to rethink and reshape the kind of world we want to live in.

This will also be an important piece of history, a snapshot in time, and a record to reflect on the hardships, strengths and resilience of our community.

Entries close at midnight on Tuesday, 15 December 2020.

We look forward to your contribution!
