The Blue Mountains local Government area has a population that is older and ageing faster than the NSW average. More people are living longer than ever and people aged 65 or more are a significant and growing sector of our community. This presents both opportunities and challenges for Blue Mountains City Council and service providers alike in planning appropriate services and facilities to meet the needs of our ageing community. It is with this is mind that Council saw the importance of developing an Ageing Strategy.
The aims of the strategy are to assist the Council to undertake the following:
Understand the changing needs of the City of the Blue Mountains and the priorities of different groups of older people;
Deliver suitable infrastructure and services over which Council has direct control or influence;
Direct actions and resources strategically to meet the diverse needs of older people; and
Advocate for, and develop integrated responses to, issues where Council may lead or partner with other organisations.
The Draft Ageing Strategy is on public exhibition from 29 March to 26 April 2017 with submission received up until 12 May 2017.
