Alcohol Free Zones (AFZs) are a designated and signposted area in which the consumption of alcohol is prohibited twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. They assist in the prevention of disorderly behaviour that can be caused by the consumption of alcohol in public places. Areas that can be incorporated into an AFZ include public roads, footpaths or car parks (on public or Crown Land).
Eight AFZs have operated in the Blue Mountains Local Government Area since 2011. These zones have been subject to a preliminary review and your comment is now sought on a proposal to re-establish them. Seven of the eight zones remain unchanged however the Katoomba town centre zone is proposed to be extended further along Bathurst Road.
Maps of the proposed AFZs and background information is available to download in the Document Library.
