Construction on the proposed shared paths begins and final plans are now available
UPDATE 12/1/22: Construction of the shared path at Wentworth Falls Lake began the first week of December 2021. The first section will run from the corner of Blaxland Road and Sinclair Crescent to Wentworth Falls Lake Park. The works for this section resumed 12 January 2022 and will be complete by March 2022. Works on the shared path at Lawson are due to get underway in March/April 2022.
The new pedestrian and cyclist pathways, which include 600m of path at Lawson, and 1600m at Wentworth Falls, will improve safety and accessibility, and enhance connections to both Wentworth Falls and Lawson town centres.
Improving connections and access benefits everyone and particularly helps those in our community living with disability. Enhancing these routes promotes time spent outdoors in our beautiful natural environment.
Following consultation over the past two years, the paths will connect these locations:
• Wilson and Cleveland Street in Lawson will connect the Lawson Village and school to South Lawson Park.
• The Sinclair Crescent section of the path will improve access to Wentworth Falls Lake Park, which is one of the four district parks in the Blue Mountains. It will run from Hill Street, Wentworth Falls, through to Blaxland Road.
Construction is expected to be completed by June 2022.
After consultation with the public, which included letter box drops to affected residents, community drop in sessions, and an online information page with contact details of Council staff, it was decided that the proposed path for Glenbrook needed further design and consultation to deliver a compliant shared path.
While works take place, Council will take measures to minimise disruption to residents and will work around significant trees and shrubs so they don’t need to be removed. There will be limited pruning where necessary, so that pedestrians can safely pass.
You are invited to talk to Council staff and designers before construction in your areas so we can work with you to minimise disruption.
