The impressive refurbishment of Springwood Library is now complete and the doors to the new, light-filled space are open to the public.

The redeveloped building, features a range of upgrades that have resulted in a modern and welcoming library environment for the community, including new reading and study areas, meeting rooms, and an accessible lift.

Stately, full-height windows on the south façade of the building also provide wonderful views over the mountains and allow more natural light to enter the library.

The building also incorporates a brand-new Customer Service desk on the ground floor for Council enquiries; open weekdays, 9am – 4pm.

Springwood Library is now also open seven days a week with extended hours:

  • 10am to 6pm weekdays
  • 10am to 4pm on weekends

Springwood Library is one of six branches of Blue Mountains Library. Other branches are located at Blackheath, Katoomba, Wentworth Falls, Lawson and Blaxland.

The new library building completes the redevelopment of the dynamic cultural precinct in the heart of Springwood, following the opening of the Blue Mountains Community Theatre & Hub in 2015.

This project was funded through the Western Parkland City Liveability Program which is a key commitment under the landmark Western Sydney City Deal between the Australian and NSW Governments and the eight councils of the Western Parkland City.

Funding for the new fit-out was also provided by the NSW Government Public Library Infrastructure Grants, through the State Library of NSW.

Blue Mountains City Council has started a weekly library bus service to run between the Springwood and Blaxland Library branches, from 9 December for the duration of the ongoing refurbishment at Springwood.

The service will run every Thursday, is free and does not require bookings. It will depart and return to the Blue Mountains Community Hub in Springwood, giving members approximately one hour at Blaxland Library.

There will be two departure times each Thursday:

    • 9.45am, returning 11.15am
    • 10.30am, returning 12pm

Until Public Health Orders change, everyone using the service and entering the Library must be fully vaccinated and will be required to check-in. We will have friendly Library staff on hand at Springwood to assist with all requirements.

There will be no service on Thursday 30 December during the Library’s holiday closure period. Click here to read the media release.

The next stage of the Springwood Library redevelopment is about to begin.

The $2.62 million redesign will transform Springwood Library into a modern, light-filled building with full glazing to the south façade, excellent views, plus quiet study areas and a fully accessible lift.

As it will take library staff time to safely pack up items for storage and transport, the library is to close well in advance of construction starting so the last day will be Saturday, 27 February 2021.

On Monday 15 March, Springwood Library will launch ‘Library in the Loft’, located in Meeting Room 2 of the Hub and Customer Service will be available at the Hub Box Office on Monday to Friday, 9am to 12noon.
